| About |
Originally, the owners wanted to name this restaurant Stella Dallas, after the 1937 Barbara Stanwyck movie. But they had to drop the "Dallas" due to copyright infringement. Still, Stella and the 1940s live on at this theme restaurant, where the decor features wall murals of returning World War II soldiers. According to manager Fred Braun, Stella's re-creates a time when "there was no frozen food. Everything was fresh and made to order. It was a time of celebration, of vitality." And, in fact, the restaurant does offer a fresh take on good old American fare. Choice suggestions are Stella's burgers (the Black Angus), sandwiches (peppered smoked roast beef) and huge salads (try the peasant salad). Heartier appetites should try the New York strip steak. There's also a very well-stocked 30-foot bar. You can choose from eight microbrews on tap, 10 single- malt scotches, six specialty vodkas and seven small- batch and fine bourbons. Hope Katz Gibbs |
